Kotoura-san Ep 10 Img 0022

Impression:
*BREATHES* Smokes. The last three minutes were nerve-wracking to watch, I was holding my breath and freaked a bit when the attacker went to land a blow on Mifune.
Kotoura-san Ep 10 Img 0017As terrifying as it is for her, Kotoura really took the stand this episode. I am glad that Mifune wasn’t pushing her to do it, although I wonder if she would have if Kotoura hadn’t agreed right off the bat since she wanted to help. Even after Moritani was proven innocent, Kotoura was the one suggesting that they continue their investigation of tracking down the criminal. I am glad that Manabe was upset and angry over the idea of Kotoura hunting down the criminal. He knows it’s dangerous, he doesn’t want to see her in the state when she had seen the culprit’s thoughts again. I was surprised that they actually lasted an entire episode of not talking to each other and Manabe staying away from her, but I am glad they managed to do that.
Kotoura was also very open about her Psychic Ability today. She courageously told the head detective and proved that she can read minds. However she was brushed aside by him since he knows that even if she knew, they need solid evidence since they can’t just tell the public, “We found the criminal thanks to a psychic being able to read minds.” or something along the lines. And on top of that, as he said so himself: There’s the honor/pride of the police force too. following that we learned that they had feign ignorance when Mifune’s mother was declared as a fraud.
So what happened with Moritani’s case is that she felt responsible because it was her friend who started the rumors. They got into an argument and Moritani was trying to find her after school and she eventually found her unconscious in the alley. The police found her there and thought she was the culprit and arrested her for the time being until another attack occurred and cleared her name.
Kotoura-san Ep 10 Img 0029I wasn’t entirely surprised to see that Mifune offered herself to be the bait for luring out the attacker. She is willing to put herself at risk while Kotoura listens for their target and location. I just hope that Mifune managed to dodge the hit, because it would be terrible to see her get hurt- even more so since I know that Kotoura would blame herself even more of not being able to warn her on time. If Mifune does get hit and all that happens, I can see Kotoura doing this on her own- no matter how risky it may be and Manabe will probably be told this and goes after her.
Kotoura-san Ep 10 Img 0021As for the culprit, it’s a male voice (creepy at that), he knows of Mifune and that she is the president of the club, but . At this point there’s a possibility that he may even be a student or a staff member from their school, otherwise how else would he know so much about her. When he mentioned: “She really did come” < implies that he either knew that they were doing their own investigation (it could be based off observations of them going around town too since Mifune pointed out that the culprit observes and then chooses their target) or he knows who Mifune is and her family background.
Last but not least, we finally got a solid answer on where Muroto stands in this whole thing. He doesn’t agree or disagree with Mifune’s decisions and actions and is only part of the ESP Club because he wants to be. He didn’t like the idea of Mifune offering herself to be the bait, but he didn’t say anything because he knew that she wouldn’t listen to him anyways. Might as well stick by her side and watch her back than have her go off doing her own thing right?

I don’t think the voice means that it was male. It’s just they use a voice technique to obscure the person’s gender. It’s an effect they use in crime shows all the time.

True enough, but given the situation I find it hard to imagine them being able to obscure it in their heads.

I’m pretty damn sure it’s the lady detective that’s attacking girls. “The killer is going to be at XX street, but don’t go there!!” this just screams reverse psychology to me, especially once the attacker thinks “she really came”- if she didn’t want Kotoura and co. to go there, why tell her the exact location when she knew they were determined to keep searching? And why would the attacker go after Mifune specifically when there were many other girls around at the time? Why is the detective’s mind so suspiciously neutral in Kotoura’s presence?! Not to mention that they have the same hair cut/color!!
Or all those clues could be a giant red herring haha. I know the mental voice Kotoura heard didn’t match the detective’s, but it sounded more like it was distorted rather than plainly male, so that could mean lots of things- split personality with a male inclination, the sound of one’s voice reflects their feelings/intentions…
On the Moritani side of things, it was hard to feel worried for her, and I’m not just saying that because of old grudges lol. The way her predicament was presented was just hard to believe. There were a lot of things that could have kept her from staying in custody as long as she did, and most of them were fairly obvious and easy to do. The biggest example that comes to mind would be calling the police instead of freaking out at the crime scene (when she had nothing at all to do with the girl being attacked, so that level of shock doesn’t feel realistic to me) until they show up on their own and misunderstand =/

OH GOOD I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT THAT!!!! I scrapped the theory aside because I felt the timing was off, but I definitely found it suspicious how she was of following them and deliberately giving them the specific location where the danger was.
//so that could mean lots of things- split personality with a male inclination, the sound of one’s voice reflects their feelings/intentions…//
OOOOH I LIKE THIS THEORY. That would be an interesting twist 😀
