“Princess, Princess! Twinkle, Twinkle!”

Eva’s First Impression:
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH- OMFG!!!!! WHAT IS AIR?!?!?!?! I CAN’T BREATHE!!!!
I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS FROM THIS SHOW, BUT IT’S FREAKING HILARIOUS.
I burst out laughing 28 seconds into this show- yes, that means I was having a laughing fit within the OP.
BUT SERIOUSLY HOW COULD I NOT. LIKE, WHO WAS EXPECTING THIS?!

HE LOOKS LIKE A FUCKING PSYCHO, KINDA FREAKS ME OUT BUT IT’S HILARIOUS

Yowamushi Pedal Ep 1 Img 0004Then once the episode starts, it just gets BETTER. Right away, I immediately adore Onoda Sakamichi and his passion for anime and his mindset of, “I can buy more at Akiba when I ride on my bike because it’s free” aka no transportation fees. And you know what? That is freaking a brilliant way of thinking. (Mind you Akiba is 45km away from their school). Even in the beginning, he purposely chose a steeper slope so that he can be alone and sing out loud “Princess Princess” (come on guys you HAVE to give me major props for having the courage to do that in public) and I died from laughter all over again. Sakamichi is just a loveable, precious character that I adore and I can’t wait to see him get dragged into the cycling club because without a doubt- Miki or the members of that club will probably end up witnessing the race between Shunsuke and Shunsuke. OR, if  Sakamichi beats Shunsuke, then I’m pretty damn sure the guy will personally drag him to join the club because of his abilities.
Yowamushi Pedal Ep 1 Img 0024Imaizumi Shunsuke is a serious cyclist who enters the tournaments and has a goal to defeat Midosuji. Initially he appeared as a cold hearted person who is obsessed with winning (as he is currently suffering second-place syndrome) but that quickly changed when we saw that he tried to warn Sakamichi about the danger of the slope, and tried giving him advice knowing that he will get hurt if he’s not careful. WIthout a doubt it is  incredibly irritating for him to see Sakamichi riding what he calls a ‘Mommy-Bike’ while he rides a proper cycling and yet always ends up getting ahead of him. I eagerly await to see Shunsuke become friends with Sakamichi, I think the dynamics between the two will be really fun, and I am crossing my fingers that Sakamichi will show him the glorious world of Anime (after all Shunsuke did end up singing Princess Princess for two seconds in the bath LOLOLOLOL).
Yowamushi Pedal Ep 1 Img 0032It’s pretty clear that Miki is no Anime fan, but a hardcore Bicycle/Cycling Fan who is a genuinely nice girl. Her were told that her family runs a bicycle shop and that her brother was previously a member of their high school’s Competitive Cycling Club, but appears he had graduated so (from what we heard) he simply just helps out the club from time to time. Seeing how passionate she is, it is a bit of a shame that she isn’t applying a member but who knows maybe we will see her on a bike at some point or another. After all this is supposed to be a three-cours series ohohohohoho!!!
The animation and character designs are really good (though quite round for some), the CG is something that was to be expected, but is do-able. Both the OP and ED sequence were really simple, and the songs were okay but not something that will be stuck in my head all day (as oppose to “Princess Princess” because it’s just too funny).
Overall I felt this show had a real strong and not to mention humorous start. The last cycling show I’ve watched it Overdrive and I have to say, this one already to me appeals to me so much more. The balance of humour, the core genre being sports and quirky characters that we have yet to learn more about, I am excited to see how this series turn out. I think those who aren’t a sports’ fan should at least take a glimpse at this episode for a first look because it is just too funny to miss out on.
