La Corda d'Oro - Blue Sky Ep 5 Img 0024Oh boy, I am not looking forward to how things are about to unfold because it is a recipe for disaster. With Ritsu’s condition in peril combined with Kanade, whose head is not in the game, and is pretty much pitying the other team due to the fact their club has been abolished and they needs this win- this is going to get ugly. Of course there is nothing in the world that is more irritating and unfair to compete against someone who instead of giving recognition by going all out, choosing hold back because they pity you and your circumstances. And it’s not just that, it is unfair to her own team, which annoys the hell out of me that the idea of not playing her best or unwilling to compete against them is even crossing her mind at this point. It is freaking ridiculous. I hope someone will slap some sense into her head early on within the next episode because it would tick me off if she jeopardizes the entire performance. What’s even worse, she will end up forcing Ritsu who is DETERMINED to win this to push himself even further despite the fact he shouldn’t even be playing right now. There are definitely two ways this mess can go: A) Ritsu is too crippled to perform and Kyouya is forced to substitute so there is no way of Kanade to sub out, B) Stupid drama ensues when Kanade tries to have Kyouya switch with her at the last bloody minute when they are about to perform- but even that seems a bit extreme.
La Corda d'Oro - Blue Sky Ep 5 Img 0009Speaking of Kyoya, he does not want to be here. I pointed out in the past entries that Kyoya definitely has some sort of inferior complex with his brother and Kanade. He immediately jumped on the opportunity when Kanade was having self-doubts and hesitations to try and encourage her to quit with him, and go back to their hometown. Much to his dismay, Kanade had declined. There is also issue of feelings of jealousy that is included with the mix, something which Nia had called him out on (not bluntly, but subtly) today.
That said, there were a lot of disappointments today. Both Kyoya and Kanade are individually annoying me, and I was quite sad to see that they are skipping over the other main competitors’ performances, but I do understand why. It is because they are not directly competing against Seiso yet because of the way the concours is formatted. Speaking of performances, oh my god- what a lackluster Shiseikan’s performance was. It was supposed to be so heartfelt because of the spirit of each of the members coming together, but frankly- that piece was so boring and it didn’t move me. I love trumpet pieces, but this piece just didn’t click. So far the pieces they are playing hasn’t been that impressive, and it is a bummer because that is supposed to be the highlight of this show. Actually, I don’t know if it just me- but I feel like the music isn’t as upfront as it was back in Corda Primo Passo… It feels more like it is blending in the background too much, which is a bit weird to phrase because it is background music. Though strangely enough, I found that I had enjoyed Hozumi’s and Yagisawa’s duet far more than their performance with their full ensemble. There was more feeling, which makes it all the more a shame that it couldn’t come through for the major performance.
La Corda d'Oro - Blue Sky Ep 5 Img 0004On the more positive note, I sincerely enjoyed Shiseikan’s Wind-Orchestra Club’s backstory and how close they are as a group. Hozumi is definitely my favourite character so far because he may look like a total thug, but he is actually such a considerate sweetheart who looks out for his friends. I felt so sad for them when their original oreshtra club was falling apart and was banned from competing because of a fight Hozumi had gotten involved in while trying to help a friend who was being bullied at the time. What I loved the most was how President Yagisawa handled the matter and refused to accept Hozumi being forced to resign from the club despite the cost that would come with it, and here they are, aiming to make a comeback despite the fact their club has been abolished.
Seeing that Sousuke had successfully snatched a spot as part of Amane’s Ensemble, I expect things to get ugly since Hido does not look like he is taking this well. I got my eye on you, punk. Let the drama ensue!!!
PS: OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NOT THE STUPID RING AGAIN. (This will be the last time I ever mentiont his unless they finally explain what makes it so special other that Ritsu giving it to her claiming it’s from a fairy (which I have no doubt of)).
