So, after all the crazy battles and seeing the best Border has to offer, we go now to the training exam things.  This will be needed to get duck-face and Chika into being official Border agents, and show what they can do and all that good stuff. And hey, some more familiar faces.

They give the basic down low on how it all works. People are given a certain number (most being 1000), and need to raise their rank by mock battles, training tournaments, and successful missions to get the score to 4,000 so they can get to B rank. Of course there’s some who, for some reason, have naturally high starting points, so we can have the privileged douchebag character teams our heroes will utterly trounce because they don’t know shit.

You can tell by the fact you want to punch their faces in

So Chika and Duck-face go off to do their training…do why is Osamu here?

Dammit, I just said that. You ruin everything purple hair girl.

He says he’s here to support Duckface and Chika, which is nice. Its glad to see they are a team and have camaraderie, even though they are so…diverse.

Anyways, Duckface’s training is beating up mock Neighbors in Border’s danger room. The basis is how fast they can kill the big critters. Getting i un undea minute is considered pretty good. Naturally, Duckface beats in in 0.6 seconds.

Yeah, about what I expected, sadly. Osamu’s the Charlie brown of this anime.

To be fair, it makes sense. These are practice Neighbors, and Duckface has lots of experience in fighting the real thing. Killing these things would be a lot easier than it would be for others.  With his combat experience, and the training he’s undergone, we pretty much all expected him to be top of the class.

One thing interesting is we get  bait more development for the angry purple hair chick, namely that she has a super uber crush on Osamu’s sempai (the one that loves trolling). And I think its raher cute how she tries to hide it. While Konami is a faux tsundere, its clear purple hair is tsundere classic.

This episode we learn about the different sniper rifles; the basic normal one, the rapid fire ones that don’t hit far or hard, and the heavy one that’s for heavy artillery damage. We see Chika showing what she’s learned, and she’s actually absorbed quite a good deal. She’s learned stuff the other rookies haven’t figures out, like moving to a new vantage point after making your shot.

Anyone who’s played pvp in a fps would know this very very well.

Anywho, Chka is meant to show the bfg sniper rifle, and due to her high amount of trion, this makes a very very big boom.

….I wonder just who pays for all this stuff Border has, sometimes.

So, we’ve seen Chika and Duckface excel, but what about Osamu? While he is already B rank (under dubious credibility), the fact is he hasn’t shown that much talent in any way. He doesn’t have a huge amount of Trion and he’s no combat expert. What exactly he adds to the team is left in question, which is probably why one of the A rank guys Jin fought decides to have a mock battle with him.

Yes, stop repeating what I say!

Now, since this guy’s A rank, its clear Osamu has no chance. Everyone knows it, especially Osamu. Also, he can easily decline to fight, and back out from the challenge. However, Osamu decides to do i, even if it means he could humiliate himself in front of all of Border. Our episode ends with his declaration and..I’m actually looking forward to this fight. This entire series, osamu has been the lame one, the sad sack, the guy who is shown up by everyone. I am really curious to see what he does in this fight. Does he have a talent we haven’t seen? Is he a great strategist? I know he has little chance of winning, but even so I want to see him finally shine after sucking so far. Come on, Wet-Blanket! I sort of kind of believe in you!

The episode overall was..basic. It was exposition and setting up this training, basically. No standout moments other than chika and Duckface showing their skills, but it wasn’t offensive to my senses. I’m curious to see how the next episode will go, and the series as a whole.
