It is calm before the storm alright as the Delta Platoon scrambles to make use of whatever precious time they have available to them before the Windermere strikes again. But while doing so, the group decides to throw a surprise party for Freyja, and everyone is to get her a gift for her Birthday. The surprise party was really sweet, especially since Freyja had forgot about her birthday. She shared with everyone about how her encounter with music changed her life. Macross Delta Ep 16 Img 0025How the songs kept her happy and strong, and she soon began to sing for the sake of happiness for her village too. Then came along the Walkure Audition, an opportunity she was not going to let pass her. And most importantly, now that she is fifteen, it marks the halfway point of a Windermere average lifespan, so this makes this particular birthday a symbolic one.

Hayate’s gift to Freyja was definitely the best one. He decided to make it snow for her birthday, but getting snow machines and prepping them enough so that once she’s outside it will be covered in snow. Worth being late to the party for that! However, although Hayate has prooven to be incredibly dense when it comes to love and such, it feels as though he is slowly becoming self-conscious of Freyja. This may have had to do with the repercussions of Mirage bluntly asked him if he liked her. It also may have to do with the with the bizzare event that took place, while Hayate was shopping at the mall, and suddenly he could hear Freyja singing (and she was) but suddenly he felt dizzy and his vision was acting funny. I don’t know what is happening, but dear god, it would be very bad if this were to happen during a fight, yikes…

Macross Delta Ep 16 Img 0031Poor Mirage, she is quickly reaching her breaking point. She can’t keep it in anymore. She tries to smile, but she feels so at loss in her unrequited love. At this point I am starting to feel that Hayate is likely to be leaning more towards Freyja now, and we know Freyja already has feelings for him, so now it’s just a matter of him realizing it. Man I hate it when I experience second-lead syndrome. Mirage, stay strong!

While the Delta Platoon and Mikumo presume the Winderemeres will not make a move just yet, King Heinz has other plans. He intends to move swiftly, and is more than willingly to jeopardize his health for the sake of ending the war sooner than later.

Mikumo decided to finally come out of her shell today and engage with others a bit more. Macross Delta Ep 16 Img 0028She started off with speaking with Freyja, a mentioned characteristics of the Windermere Kingdom’s climate. It did make me excited the further the possibility she Winderemere before, or even lived there for a time. But what got me this week was Mikumo’s remark on how she came by to the party because she was curious what it was like, and nobody ever celebrated her birthdays. And all I could think of is, OUCH my heart. To think nobody bothered to even try celebrating her birthday with her… That’s pretty depressing.

And finally, we did get a bit of a follow up to the wounded solder’s sudden exclamation about Hayate’s father. He and Arad were able to quickly brush it off by the soldier apologizing to Hayate and thanking him for saving his life, and Arad saying the two probably didn’t get along. However we learn that there is a big secret about Hayate’s father, and based on what we saw, it could be one of two things (the later, because of his nature to be too kind for his own good). i) Hayate’s father was the one who piloted the plane who dropped the Dimensional Bomb onto Windermere Kingdom or ii) Hayate’s father tried to warn the Windermere of the NUNS attack. Either one could result the soldier’s dramatic reaction, depending on where he stands.

Random Note of the Week: The gang’s voice-overs of Hayate and Mirage were hilarious!

Hyate has had that reaction to her singing several times now all of them during battle. The turbo charge probably felt more disconcerting in Hallmark than a dog fight.
