Wow, the amount of real world references is staggering. It was pretty funny that Carole and Tuesday had no idea who Justin Bieber and Motorhead were, albeit surprising. Even The Beatles! And there’s nothing wrong with adding all these references from our world, but it gets a bit much with the Instagram, that horrible Vogue interview, and Ertegun’s crappy emoji statue. That was the final straw!

This was a much slower episode that introduced Gus to us while also forming a new goal going forward. Which is making these two girls stars of course! Gus isn’t all talk, sort of. He has a lot of experience with music and managing, even if it hasn’t gone totally well. He was kind of buttering himself up for Carole and Tuesday, but he does show a lot of passion for music and that’s what counts. I quite like him already. I was scared that he was going to be the eccentric and kind of irresponsible drunk, but he’s not that at all. Just like Carole and Tuesday, he’s starting from the bottom and is going to work his way up along with them. He’s experienced but the episode shows one glaring problem, and it’s that he’s a little behind on the times. His old vocal place being completely different, how to get the girls famous, the rise of AI music, it’s all new. But thankfully it looks like Roddy is also going to be part of their little group since he’s close with Gus. Roddy is currently part of this booming music industry and he can really lend a hand too, just like he did this episode just by having connections with DJ Ertegun. Carole and Tuesday were a little reluctant about Gus’ proposal but agreed in the end.

The meeting with Ertegun went just about the way I imagined. Ertegun is an egotistical, narcissistic, rude, douchebag playboy. The girls were supposed to give him their pitch with their new song and hopefully impress him enough to want to work together, but after making them wait for a long time while he fooled around with a bunch of girls and talked on the phone, he never even gave them a chance. Before even giving their song a lesson, he immediately shot them down saying their song would be boring, the same as any other. How does he know that? Because he’s Ertegun of course, he thinks he’s a music god or something. This angers Tuesday and she for some reason burned their music sheets, causing the fire sprinklers to go off. And making them run, because they run a lot. I understand being angry but why burn the music sheets and lyrics you guys worked hard on!

So things did not end well at all, but the girls aren’t too down and neither is Gus. They’re both kind of crazy but they certainly have the drive. So now that things didn’t work out with Ertegun, I wonder what their next plan of action will be.

Outside of Carole and Tuesday, we got another look at Angela, and even Tuesday’s home. I find it really concerning and just plain sad that Tuesday’s mother isn’t really all that worried about her own daughter. She just thinks she’ll come running back and doesn’t even want to get the police involved because it’ll just bring negative PR towards her election. Because politicians suck. Oh, and looks like she’s shacking up with some young mofo. The only one that is genuinely worried is her brother, but I’m surprised he hasn’t found her yet? What happened to their video getting millions of views? Wouldn’t he have seen it by now? I don’t really get that but he might find her soon?

As for Angela, things are going pretty much the same with her. The Teen Vogue interview was awkward and scripted as hell, but this is the type of stuff she does to be famous. But it looks like this is just her taking on her mom’s dream instead of it being her choice. It’s probably a lot of pressure on her, and the voice training she does isn’t exactly less stress. I do have to admit that when she screamed and hit the note she needed I laughed a bit, but that chair is terrifying. And Tao is still strange. The way he said that it’s Angela that needs to fit the song and not the other way around just makes it sound like he only sees her as another tool for him to play around with. It’s like he doesn’t really see her as a human being. I really can’t wait to see what Angela’s mother uncovers about Tao because he has me the most intrigued.

The episode was slow but still pretty fun to watch. We got more great character interaction, and the laundry scene was cute. It’s cute that they came up with their song there and the guy in the middle joined in with their clapping. Little scenes like that where the girls are experimenting and coming up with melodies and lyrics feels so real and makes the show a lot more grounded. It’s just funny that their new song was literally inspired by a washing machine. The song was cute and the montage of it was great. The show has a lot of charm!
