Another set up feeling episode, but still an enjoyable one where it feels like my speculations of Rudo finding a group who cares and accepts him is slowly coming true. Though I feel like that was obvious. However, it’s still really nice to see, especially with how he was treated back in episode 1 and 2. He’s finally found his people and while it probably will take him a bit to let his guard down and be more open with others, this is definitely the place he will probably thrive in. So I’m happy for him in that aspect. He’s finally being treated as a person rather than a cursed being.
Going into this series, I feel like it was a given there would be a lot of characters. When Enjin opened the doors to reveal a million people inside I was like: wow, this is a lot of characters to introduce in one episode- Only for him to immediately close the doors and I absolutely lost it. To which I had to pause the episode to give myself time to cackle. I even thought to myself that if he closes the door right then and now, I will lose it lol. I do appreciate that Enjin didn’t want to overwhelm Rudo. So we’ll probably be slowly meeting all of these strange looking characters eventually. Funny how they gave us a teaser for all of them before going: maybe next time~ Unfortunately we also will have to wait before meeting the boss since they were currently out at the moment. I’m curious as to who is leading this group of seemingly misfits.
We do get to meet at least a few new characters this episode such as Semiu, Riyo and her team. Through Semiu, we see something amiss about Rudo and his power when she uses her ability of seeing the person’s future. Though I guess that was no surprise considering how his power seemingly acts like a curse at times. Semiu is definitely hiding the extent of what she saw in Rudo and thankfully Enjin seemed to notice so there will probably be a talk between the two later over what exactly she saw. Because whatever it was, it didn’t seem good and hopefully they address it before it gets to that point.
Riyo is quite the laid back firecracker. She just so unbothered by what’s going on around her despite Rudo panicking. Even when things surprise her she’s like: Huh… maybe I should do something about that. Like, GURL. Have a little more sense of urgency, but I guess it makes sense if she’s confident in her abilities and is so used to things like this where she’s just desensitized to the danger. Her weapon of choice is definitely interesting being scissors and it makes a lot of sense why she seemed to fascinated by Rudo’s hair. Girl literally talks like a barber. And while she is pretty lax, when she fights, she is all sorts of strong and crazy. Clearly, if you’re gonna be part of the Cleaners, you have to be a little crazy is what I’m understanding lol.
Along with Riyo, there are those without abilities that help her with the clean up. Despite them not having any powers, they all have proven to be very competent in what they do to help Riyo in the clean ups. Especially the Gris guy. With his raw power, he’s able to throw the trash beasts at Riyo to help gather them to her so she can get rid of them easier and not have to move as much. I’m really liking the team work between those with powers and those without. Shows that even if you aren’t gifted with abilities, your efforts and help are still needed. Gris definitely wins the MVP award in this episode with how he was able to save Rudo not once but twice and overall just being a big brother of sorts by watching out for him.
Rudo also brings up a good question of if the people of the sphere even know that there are people down there or if they don’t care. Though I feel like it’s pretty obvious they wouldn’t care if there were people down there considering how terribly snobby and conceited the upper class are. But it does create a lot of intrigue on what the heck is going on in this universe. There’s still so much we don’t know, especially since this episode ends with presenting a new problem about someone putting special tools into the trash beasts to make them more powerful. I can only guess the dude at the end of the episode is somehow connected to that. Can’t say for sure if he’ll be an enemy or not, but considering how he’s shown in a darkness with the guy who tried to sell Rudo, it feels likely he might be our main antagonist of the season… Unless it proves otherwise.
This series is so interesting where it makes me so curious about how things will play out and I know that Rudo has a lot of potential for growth. Especially now that he’s surrounded by people who aren’t going to needlessly judge him for something he can’t help. In turn, he’s also trying to help out even if he doesn’t know how to control his powers yet. Which reminds me… isn’t that other guy supposed to be training him? Where did he go lol. Definitely eager to see where the story takes us and I am SO curious about so many different things.
