CRAP. Youta’s totally falling hard for Sae! Ahhhh man, the guy’s such a sweetheart that I don’t want to see him get crushed! I mean, we can see he quite literally fell for her with the way he clumsily tried to learn how to ride a bike to quickly get to where she’s at. He thought she had went to a sketchy area on her own, so he rushed over to make sure she had someone with her. It’s honestly so hard to not cheer for him because I do like him a lot. In-fact, I’m kind of torn over who I like more, Koki or Youta. I like both of them because they each have their appeal, but when it comes to who I’d like to see paired with Sae, I’m not even sure anymore. I think we can all agree she can’t go wrong with ending up with either one. Both are good guys.
But now that Youta’s starting to make the move, Koki finds himself cowering away in fear of rejection. Basically it’s his turn to really be caught up in the pool of self-doubt, the phase which Sae had already cleared in the first few episodes of the show. Before, he didn’t see any competition for Sae’s heart, so he was probably content with the fact he could take his time. But now he feels likes he feels like he had taken that for granted as he doesn’t think, nor does he realize the one Sae actually likes him. He’s terrified that he’ll lose to the guy that he thinks she likes.
That isn’t to say Koki hasn’t been doing anything this episode though. The fear of rejection only started to gnaw at him more at the end of the episode after he saw Sae and Youta coming back together from picking up the spare cardboard. Before that, he has been trying to be helpful to Sae, but doing the heavy-lifting jobs that otherwise typically gets shoved onto her due to the combination of her strength and advantage of her height. By doing that, he felt like he was doing his part, but Sae didn’t actually realize that until he said so himself. So that wasn’t really uh… clear to say the least.
Speaking of Sae! While she has been fairly shy about inviting Koki to the after-party, thanks to the encouragement of her friends, she managed to pull herself together to proactively spend time together with Koki. She had already done the first step of submitting their song for the dance, now she’s trying to muster up the courage to ask him to join her for the after-party. While she hasn’t gotten there yet, Sae at the very least is actively trying because she’s dead set on finally confessing to Koki.
Last but not least, we got Subaru. I still don’t really understand what’s going through her head at the moment, but at the very least she deserves credit where it’s due. When Koki was expressing his disappointment and frustration that Sae likes someone else, Subaru countered him with, “Are you SURE about that?” She even straight up told him that she believes the ones Sae likes is him. But that isn’t enough to convince him, and that ended up ticking her off, big time.
Unfortunately for the two of them, it looks like they are going to be caught up in a storm of rumours with the way Koki had to run while carrying her to the infirmary after she had collapsed. Subaru wasn’t looking good to begin with, probably overworked given how much responsibility she got on her shoulders at the moment. From being the lead in her class’ play, student council president duties and running the show for the festival, there’s a lot on her plate at the moment.
Anyhow, so as long as Koki continues to be cowardly, it will be Sae who leads the initiative for the confession. I just hope Koki doesn’t put his foot in his mouth to screw it up for both of them.

Ayukawa got the strong case of second lead syndrome.
TT v TT Yup, that sums it up perfectly!
