Impression
This week episode was all about Ayu, and it is unfortunate to say that it was rather dull. The only thing that is succeeded doing was simply being creepy. Layra is a very eerie duelist. It is almost as if she is soulless, and I feel that even her deck displays that. There is no sense of self-identity, it is as if she is forced to follow her prodigy brother’s foot-steps. I feel this way because of the scary look Himeka had on her face. Like what the hell did she do? Brainwash the kid? One minute the kid is having an anxiety attack and the next she is almost as if she is an android and is following orders. What a messed up family… I would like to hope that Reiji looks out for his sister, but god, even his actions were vague as ever!
Sora certainly continued to act like that shady-shit he is. He may be part of their school, but he isn’t even slightly interested in supporting others, unless of course there is something to gain out of it. It appears he did speak the truth of going around to scout other duelists, but he considers them all boring compared to Yuuya. As Sora has been a mysterious character from the start, it feels like this small moment gave us a more solid idea of what his motives are. At this point I have my doubts that Sora is working for someone- he may have contributed to an organization/group in a past, but now whatever he does it solely for himself. We know that he gets bored easily, so he is always looking for challenging opponents. It is strange however how he isn’t giving much thought to Shun when he knows they will be up against each other for their first match. The only thing now however is whether or not Shun had overheard him when Sora had commented out loud about how he was Yuzu’s mentor. (If he did: I am sure Shun will connect Yuzu’s ability to Fusion Summon when he faces off against Sora).
Next week, it is finally Yuzu’s turn to shine- and SHE BETTER WIN! GO YUZU GO!!!!

I think Layra/Reira is a boy, he uses “boku”, like a lot of boys use, and only bokkukos girl likes to use “boku”? As far as anime sterotypes go, bokkukos have a blazing personality and I doubt Himika would allow a daughter of hers to be a bokkuko O__o
I found Ayu’s deck really cute, and yeah, Layra/Reira is really creepy, and even Reiji patting his head felt ambiguous, but at least it showed that he was more comfortable after that?
LOLOLOL, Hey look at the bright side: It was an “important duel”(anyone who’s related to Akaba is important) and Yuya wasn’t the focus(again)! We even updated the TvTropes as it’s becoming memetic!
I don’t know if you noticed, but they sure focused of Tatsuya’s reaction to this duel, and him greeting Layra/Reira on the end… Hum~ I bet Tatsuya will duel against him!Maybe he will be his personal rival?

I considered that too, but I resorted assuming Layra is a girl since when I looked up the name is was a girl name- but heck I wouldn’t be surprised if Layra turns out to be a boy because I AM STILL SO CONFUSED, especially when the MC used -kun, but I’ve seen situations girls addressed with -kun and I don’t know enough Japanese to know what is what so god help me. XD Once I know for a fact Layra is a boy, I will make the corrections.
I have no doubt in mind that Layra is important, but while he or she may be important, there was no real plot progression. Perhaps it would be best described as an introduction to plot elements or device that will take place in the future.
I think it was expected that Yuuya wasn’t going to be focused today due to the nature of the duel, but LOL poor guy. The plot keeps on avoiding him. I wonder how long this will go on for, it is already a new record as it is!
Yeah I did notice how they focused on Tatsuya’s reactions, perhaps he knows Layra. I certainly expect that we will be seeing the two duel against each other in the future.
Yuuto is probably lurking in the shadows somewhere. XD
Good Episode. It’s nice to see Ayu getting some spot light. It was a good Duel, but it was sad that Ayu loss but she did her best and that’s good enough. Her opponent Layra was creepy. Layra acted like a robot that took orders from Reiji and Himira. Sora should be a shamed of himself for leaving Ayu’s duel! Sora should have been there to support her and he wasn’t just because he was bored and that is a lame excuse! When Sora duels everyone should just leave just like he did to Ayu! But of course everyone is going to want to see that duel because of Shun. I am looking forward to that duel and Yuya’s duel! I am also looking forward to seeing Yuzu’s duel in the next Episode and to get revenge on Masumi! Good Luck to Yuzu in her duel against Masumi! I hope Yuzu wins her duel!
