Well, continuing on from last episodes, we have even more fighting with minor characters against our new villains. Now, it does kind of feel weird that so early into the series we are focusing on minor characters we don’t know so much about, but o be honest, I’m not that interested in our main’s, so I really can’t tell the difference. I’m actually guessing the whole battle between the Shinoda group and the rest of Border was to introduce these guys so that we can at least sort of know who they are here in the invasion arc. And again, they’re using the concepts of triggers and trion in new and interesting ways, and I’m finding the fights entertaining in how much they rely on outthinking their opponents.

Anyways, we learned last time in one possible future, Osamu dies, so Jin wants to get him, Chika, and the other C rank agents to where Duckface is. Apparenly h had this all set up so they can do that, even though these enemy Neighbors are after Chika very hard.

I am almost beginning to find these little chibi explanation things endearing….almost…

So, when the group decides to split, one of the Neighbors, the one using the metal spike shards, attacks and hooks Chika, trying to capture her. Its interesting fist seeing regular triggers, then these new more advanced technologies.  Things look dire as Chika is taken up by the shards connected to her trion body.

It looks as though Chika’s gong to join her brother and friend, until suddenly….

You just…just can’t beat a classic.

The team spread their fire so he’d have to spread out his shield, weakening his defenses, so Reiji could just swoop in and sock him in the face. He also was able to learn how this Neighbor’s trigger worked; its magnetic.  It remains nice to see the clever ways our heroes get past more powerful and better equipped opponents. Anyways, the group really needs to head out and…that’s most of our main heroes this episode. Yep, less than half the episode, and they had barely in the previous one. Combined with the flashbacks and the intro sequence, thes episodes move paster quicker than you think. As for the new opening, I like the visuals but I don’t like the song so much. I just like more energy in my shonen’s.

Let’s see…we also get a beef scene with the asshole guy being an asshole. The Border agents are told they need to help, and he remembers Jin saying he’d be the only one to save Osamu, but he’s still like “I’m a jerk, so I’m going to totally not help even though I totally will because I have Vegeta syndrome.”

‘kept you just got orders to back them up, you stubborn ass

The rest of the episode is the oner Neighbor fighting the guy with the really big cubes, the spear guy, the jerk kid Duckface beat a few episodes back, and a bunch of random sniper dudes.  They know this guy both has incredibly powerful projectiles and incredible shields as well, so he’s being very tough. They do the smart thing and coordinate their strikes, in some pretty interesting maneuvers, constantly distracting hm and diverting his attention to set up for the next strike. However, he’s pretty smart too, and pulls out a new surprise, he can freaking flyyyyyy.

However, the jerk kid does manage o use something he learned before; if your adversary is confident he can win, then he’s more vulnerable to being surprised. The kid takes this lesson, and actually manages o cut off the Neighbor guy’s leg. After this happens, everyone goes all in on him, trying to push him into a corner. He flies around, trying to evade, but then they box him in with their shields and spear guy manages to land a serious blow on him.

Honestly, this episode was fun,but not noteworthy, as is the show for me at this point. The fights and powers and strategies are neat, but it still lacks that emotional “oomph” to really make it impactful. The world’s nice, the fighting is cool, and how they fight is very much its own thing though. Not many shonen employ strategies in this manner, so its refreshing, and they’ve worked hard to make the fighting at least feel different from other shows. Still, I’d rate World Trigger as watchable. Its the kind of show that I can see getting popular, but doesn’t yet fully seem all that memorable.
