Technically the name of the episode is ‘Over the Obento’ but I think Misunderstandings is a much better title for this episode, because it’s filled to the brim with them. Most of them aimed at Kyon, i feel so bad for this guy. He just wants a normal highschool life, is that honestly so much to ask? Even in the AU where Haruhi isn’t God, he just can’t catch a break.

First Tsuruya pushes Mikuru onto Kyon, shoving her boobs onto his face. Wait, I feel like this has happened before but with a different girl. Oh wait, last episode. Gah, poor Kyon. So anyway, that leads into another horrid misunderstanding in which Tsuruya tells the story of how Kyon bumped into Mikuru a year prior [on accident] on purpose! With some evil scheme, [it was an accident], and he goes to help her pick up her things and they touch hands.
Tsuruya comes upon it and totally misunderstands, and has now passed the misunderstanding on to Yuki.

I’m not sure if I should call the next event a misunderstanding or not, it’s the story of how Haruhi got permission to come to the school. She basically duped Yuki into signing the permission slip while she was playing on her PSP and was totally distracted. Ryoko isn’t too pleased about how Haruhi went about this, also, what’s with that huge hermit bag that Itsuki has?
What is this thing that Haruhi is plotting on us? I’m sure it’s nothing important.

Let’s see, what else happens in this episode? Well first, there is the fact that Kyon apparently isn’t doing so well on his tests and asks Ryoko to teach him. She turns him down at first, saying that he should apply himself and try on his own, however, she accepts rather quickly as soon as he threatens to go ask Yuki for help. She begins tutoring him, but then Haruhi and Itsuki come in and mock how easy the work at this school is.

Trying to defend their schools honor, they say they could do the work from Haruhi and Itsuki’s school. In an attempt to prove it, both Kyon and Ryoko are taken down quickly by the math problem. So they go to Yuki, who takes one look at it and solves it in her head with ease.
Haruhi demands that it could’ve been a lucky guess and asks to hear the process in which Yuki solved the problem, the resulting explanation left everyone in the room. [and all the viewers] scratching their heads, apparently, Yuki is super smart but the way she processes things is ridiculous and when explained sounds like an ‘alien’ language.
[Which is a beautiful throw back to the original series in which she’s an alien. The way they sped up her lips when she was talking like this was another beautiful call back to the way when Yuki was changing something in reality in the original series. Her speech would become hyper sped up.]

Anything else important happen before the part of the episode this episode was named after? No? Okay. So now we’re back to the massive misunderstandings. This time involving Kyon and Yuki and their flirting.
Which is all accidental, though I have to say I enjoy Ryoko’s responses to these situations a lot better than i’ve liked some of her previous responses. She suddenly just, becomes prim and proper and flips her hair and shows herself out.
It’s funny, it’s cute, the flirting is cute, Ryoko’s reactions are cute, Kyon’s lunch is cute, Yuki is cute! Everything about this part of the episode is cute.

Then suddenly, Haruhi! With the announcement of a training camp. Training for what….I have no idea, that’s for next episode. Will this be anything like the island adventure from the first series? Will Kyon get a decided love interest? What is up with the multi tone coloring of Mikuru’s hair, like seriously, is that bothering ANYONE else? I never got the feeling from the first series that her hair was multi toned!

Find out the answers next time on the training camp…well maybe not the answer to the hair question, I don’t think i’ll ever get an answer to that one.
