I’m scared.

Goldof? Just one piece of advice. Don’t stick your dick in crazy.

Rokka 10 Img016

Rokka 10 Img018I mean, she’s cute enough and all, but it’s honestly not worth it. I was almost certain that Maura was the seventh when she started lying about Hans being in critical condition, but then a few minutes later, I wasn’t so sure any more. I was actually terrified. Like Maura, I also thought it’d be the key piece of evidence that gets bunny girl to start targeting Adlet just like most of the others, but I didn’t think she’d snap like she did – it was a really drastic and sudden change, as well. I guess if they believe what Maura’s telling them and think that Hans is near death as a result of being attacked by Adlet, then that’s irrefutable evidence that Adlet is not acting in the best interests of the Braves, and is thus likely to be the fake. The issue here is that Maura is a big fat liar, and that immediately makes her the prime suspect as she’s irrationally trying to get a genuine Brave killed. I’ve said this in past posts, but she has an almost zealous desire to see Adlet killed for some reason, and she doesn’t even try to budge from her position in the face of new arguments or evidence. She’s not stopping and thinking at all – for example, she talks about how, if she doesn’t kill him now, everyone else will end up believing him due to his unwavering conviction that he’s not the fake. The thing about that is that, well… he gets his confidence in the first place because he is genuine. And surely it’d be even harder to aim for Fremy if Adlet dies. If Adlet is real and ends up dying, then wouldn’t Maura, the one who was most keen on killing him, be naturally suspected next?

Rokka 10 Img030I found the Fremy stuff really cute, especially in the last scene when she finally decides to believe in Adlet – even when he thought his life was about to end, he did his absolute best to protect Fremy and ensure that she wouldn’t be targeted by Maura next. I didn’t think romance would actually be a thing, though. I thought we’d already put Adlet’s motivation for protecting Fremy behind us – that he realized he used to be just like she is now, and wanted to help her out. His entire confession felt like it came a little out of left field, even though he did say that he didn’t understand his feelings until now – I thought his justification would only end up sounding like a confession, or something like that. I would totally watch a sequel spin-off featuring Adlet and Fremy adjusting themselves to human society, though. Fremy deciding that she would never put her trust in anyone again is most likely a product of her experiences with her Fiend mother, who also tricked her by claiming to love her and putting up a front. But time and time again, Adlet has gone beyond mere words and protected her with no apparent benefit to him – it’s actually amazing that he didn’t have a shred of care of himself when Maura was about to kill him, and instead put all his energy into clearing Fremy’s name.

Rokka 10 Img033Adlet now has Hans and Fremy on his side – he’s gained another ally, which is great. I guess he’s lost Nashetania, but given that she doesn’t seem to be too mentally stable I doubt it’s a particularly great loss. Not that Nashetania was much use to begin with – anything she’d try to do to help him would be hindered by Goldof the Wary, who is just as impulsive as Maura in trying to kill potential fake Braves. The bigger problem with losing Nashetania is that she’s now out to get him. With Maura and Goldof also in the hunting party, I don’t see how Adlet can do anything other than keep running if he’s choosing not to fight – and if he doesn’t manage to lose them, he’s screwed. If only they were willing to stop and listen…

All right, Vantage! 😀 I’m glad you finally got to see this episode of the beautiful, the bad and the crazy! I, too, would adore a spin-off of Fremy and Adlet (plus it might give insight into what Nachetanya did to be hunted and exiled for some time, especially if my suspicions about her wanting peace between the species is correct)!

I can definitely understand how trying times and constantly being there for someone can rapidly change the feelings of both parties. I think everyone agrees that the confession felt like it came a little out of left field, but any issues with that were definitely smoothed over once Flamie decided to trust in Adlet!

I’m looking forward to your thoughts on the next episode when you can find the time to share them! Heck, I’m so impressed by this series as a whole, as well as the way it seems to satisfy every LN reader as far as coverage (supposedly it’s near 100% coverage) that I’m tempted buy all the DvD’s, or at least a few alongside my favourite two episodes.

“(plus it might give insight into what Nachetanya did to be hunted and exiled for some time, especially if my suspicions about her wanting peace between the species is correct)! ”

…I find this comment very suspicious, because she has done absolutely nothing IN THE ANIME to indicate that she has this as any sort of goal.

      1. The Traveler (@IWHBYT)

Well it’s derived from my previous suspicions about her being the fiend with the rabbit-like ears, until Flamie’s ED showed the Fiend was likely one she knew and then an episode featured it as the one that orchestrated her birth together with her mother.

Anyway, due to that initial suspicion it made me wonder what, if it was true, Nachetanya could’ve done to be hunted and exiled for only a short while. My answer was that she attempted to find peace between Kyoma and Humans, which lent itself nicely to the thought of her being an adopted shapshifter.

Or… maybe I just sound like Adlet has constantly up until the latest episode xD

      2. Vantage

I did also entertain the thought about her being a Fiend with rabbit-like ears, but I think she’s just a human who wears rabbit ears because she likes doing rabbit things, like how Hans acts like a cat all the time.

As for the rest of that, if it goes past speculation into spoiler then I CAN’T HEAR YOU I CAN’T HEAR YOU

Well, there’s a very good proof of NAshetania being human in the anime anyway. THe thing Adlet used on the altar to prove Fremy innocent reacts to Fiends and half fiends. Since she touched the ceremonial knife and the knife didn’t react, it means neither her, nor anyone else who touched that is even half fiend.

          1. The Traveler (@IWHBYT)

That is, indeed, a good point. Fortunately I already gave up my suspicion once the three-winged Fiend was actually featured in an episode.

Goldov will always play his dick and ask dumb stuff.:/
Ep11 has been out for about a week. And welcome back from the hong kong trip!

    1. Vantage

      Well, he is only 16!

And thanks! Jet-lag is hitting hard, but I do want to get Episode 11 out before the finale airs tomorrow evening.

People in some places were talking about Nashetania having mood swings that made them distrust her as far back as episode 2. Personally I wasn’t buying it back then, but with her behavior in this episode (and the next one), she’s either nucking futz, or doing a really credible imitation of being so.

People have pointed out that since Maura is the leader of the Saints, Nashe has known her for years, and has every reason to trust her. I can accept that as a reason why she would believe Maura and decide to go after Adlet, but that total yandere flip-out is something else entirely.

    1. gorgonzola

      Two things:
In the novel the seventh identity is heavily hinted right from the start with a flash forward. Not given away but still hinted. So this whole thing is about you checking on this seventh behaviour for the whole time and admire the acting, not finding out who’s what.
On the other hand, yeah,we will find out about the seventh but this is such a good paranoia gimmick none of the suspects will be ruled out! And the next seasons will build up on everything the first did. So don’t waste much energy on it;p

      1. Vantage

Yeah, I remember hearing about that somewhere – how the novel has paragraphs breaking the story up with monologues about what the seventh is thinking whilst the story is playing out. I guess they could have done that with narration like how Sawashiro Miyuki did her ‘Legends say that there were six heroes who…’ intro at the start of the first few episodes?

But it’d make the mystery sound more like a re-telling instead of being a story more ‘in the moment’, and I think it does well with the latter. And it’s a TV anime in the end, airing one episode per week. Making it harder to figure out who the seventh is makes for a more exciting watch week on week.

        Also, more seasons! Hooray!

    2. Vantage

If we change our starting assumptions, I think Nashetania’s behaviour could be explained. Let’s assume she is the seventh – in which case, she would like nothing more than for Adlet, a genuine Brave, to be killed. All her previous support of him has merely been to reduce any suspicion towards her, and in reality she couldn’t care less. So maybe she’s been looking for an excuse to switch to the Adlet-hunting side, which Maura provided her with this episode – thus, the yandere flip-out looks really inorganic and unnatural to us because it was planned the entire time, and was something she intended to do all along.

After all, if someone goes from trusting someone to not trusting them, it’s often a gradual thing. Yet bunny girl moved from baseless support to wanting to burn him at the stake within seconds.

      1. Shiki

Maybe Nashetania’s behaviour comes from the way of living as a princess, so everyone in the place were merely servants, teacher or goldof but not really “friends”, so finding trust in someone like adlet who is your only/best friend/lover (?) at that point and than finding out he is a murder can make quite a dent into your psyche.. possibly leading to such a behaviour
Oh and yes those bunny ears are simply accessoirs
The inner monologue thing is hard to pull of since you cant put in into an anime even with changed voice without lifting suspicion from other participants, especially when everyone is always walking around in pairs, but the fun part simply was that everyone could have been it and it was fun to speculate

  4. Plinfan

I am almost convinced now that Nashetania is the seventh. I mean Adelet, Fremy and Hans are definitly not Traitors, chamot is a kid and not smart enough for such a plan. While mora is the most suspicious by far, this kinda decreases my belive that she is the seventh, she is simply too suspicious. I also kinda think that her static opinion might have something to do with her being the saint of the montains, i mean montains = static, maybe. The Sole reason why I don`t suspect Goldof is that of all the charaters he has the least amount of Personallity and screentime, making him the traitor would have zero impact.
I found the confecion scene really funny. While it came a bit sudden, one of my complaints of other shows is when charactes are obviously in love but are ether to dence or shy to confess their feelings, so when something like this happens unexpectedly early I see it more as a nice change to normal.

    1. Vantage

But we said the whole ‘too suspicious’ thing about Hans or even Fremy – that they were red herrings. Maura initially seemed prim and proper, with a good occupation and reputation, and yet she’s rapidly lost herself points with every episode.

The confession scene was definitely refreshing. This wasn’t supposed to be anything near a romance though, so it felt odd – I remember saying before that Rokka could never have a filler or do a beach episode or something, purely because it’s not in the nature of its story. It has one job, and it does that job really well.

I guess romance isn’t as far-fetched as a beach episode, but when it’s about traitors and suspicion with everyone trying to kill each other out of distrust, saying something like ‘you’re not the seventh, because I love you’ is a bit weird. Although I have seen people say ‘it can’t be Fremy, because she’s best girl’ so I guess anything goes. Sounds like something I would say.

  5. gorgonzola

Word of warning, 11 leaves with a cliffhanger so having 11 and 12 as a final episode wouldn’t be a bad.

    1. Vantage

Nah, I’ll do them separately. It wouldn’t be my proper thoughts on the episode if I did it after watching whatever came after it!

    2. gorgonzola

Holy crap what have I done with grammar?
