I definitely enjoyed this episode a lot more than the last couple episodes, so I suppose that’s an improvement. Even if it did feel a bit fillerish… Let’s be honest, it was filler.

This episode explored more of the character dynamics, most notably between Melie and Seth. I’m still not sure how I particularly feel about Melie, but we got to delve a little bit into her character and circumstances. While it was very surface level, we did learn that due to her rather violent and crazy other personality, Melie has no friends and even made cardboard cutouts for company. It’s actually kind of sad considering this is the city of sorcerers and even sorcerers steer clear of her. Which makes me think that Seth asking for her help means a lot to her. Unfortunately, Melie in her normal state can only do defensive magic and cannot help Seth in learning the most basic spell that would get Yaga to help him.

So it seems that Melie’s default thing to do if she doesn’t know what to do, ask Doc for help. Doc… oh Doc… I still hate you. So seeing him constantly fail with his crush, Miss Melba was satisfying. This lady is a sweetie, if not a little airheaded. Sorry not sorry, Doc, but this woman deserves way better than you. Especially how she genuinely encourages Seth and is just all around a nice person to him despite how presumptuous he is. Rank high in my book for that, lady. Though it is a little strange that her father is on her hand… but I can’t tell if that is really her father or it’s her curse.

With Miss Melba’s influence, Doc agrees to help Seth along, although very reluctantly. However, I’m confused. Is Doc a sorcerer or a regular human? Did I take his comment about not being like people like Seth the wrong way? There wasn’t really a confirmation of where Doc stood on the scale of normal person or sorcerer. Guess I’ll find out later. Either way, despite Doc trying to help Seth learn how to do an actual magic attack, it literally ended with it blowing up in his face.

I honestly had a feeling that Melie’s other personality would make an appearance this episode. I mean, the episode title was her name so I think I’d be more surprised if she didn’t make an appearance. Though I have to say that alternate Melie is so much more interesting, especially when she literally tries to teach Seth how to use magic by attacking him… Probably not the best method of teaching, but to each their own I suppose lol. But man, I was getting even more second-hand stress over the fact Melie’s magic was causing so much damage to the city. Each explosion basically causes Doc to go more in debt. While I don’t like the guy, I can give some sympathy where sympathy is due.

Melie calls Seth out on not having steeled himself as a warrior yet. Which makes sense considering without a fighting spirit, Seth won’t make it too far in his quest to defeat all the Nemesis.

However, the biggest question I have is what is the significance to Seth’s gloves? Especially when they got cut during the chase scene with him and Melie, the camera was very blatantly focusing on the rip in his glove. And I’m assuming because it ripped, he was finally able to use Meteor Drops. I also have a feeling that the gloves are used to restrain Seth’s power considering how much destruction he caused when his power went out of control when those kids were beating him up as a kid.

And man, was this episode pushing the Seth x Melie ship HARD, even if it’s currently one-sided on Melie’s part. Though I do have to admit they’re really cute friends. From what I talked about earlier with everyone being afraid of Melie, it probably meant so much to her that Seth was able to accept her and her alternate personality in stride without being afraid or getting angry. Though I couldn’t help but giggle when Melie blushed over offering Seth to live at her house. But now that Seth was able to win Yaga over for completing the task of being able to use Meteor Drops, hopefully the plot can move along.
