Now this, was a fabulous episode. I must have been laughing from start to finish, that’s just how entertaining it was. Neil wasn’t kidding about having control of the entire underground of the city. All it takes is a click of a button to drop Yuuga and his friends (no matter where they are in the city, be it together or apart) to drop them into the Garden of Providence. That’s how Roa ended up joining the party because while they were looking for clues for ‘finding the Key that opens the door to the new world’, Romin had to go visit Roa and because she is part of the deal, Neil dragged her in, alongside Roa who was dragged in for the ride.

Last week I talked about how since the beginning of the arc, the duels weren’t clicking with me, so I have been thinking a lot about why that that is. And then while I was watching this episode, I realized it was not actually the duel itself that was boring me, but the opponents. The characters Yuuga and the others have been facing are not memorable by the slightest. And a big part of that is because they never really gave us a reason to care about them. That’s why this week’s episode was probably the strongest episode we have had since the beginning of this arc (besides the Curry Rice from Romin’s Kitchen Nightmare, because that episode was a RIOT!)

The reason why this episode was so good was because of one simple thing that we have been sorely missing: Making the duels personal. And that’s exactly what Roa and Getta delivered to us.

The two boys are childhood friends, and Roa has always been someone Getta loves and admires and even learned a lot from. However Roa always has the tendency to jump from one thing to another, doing only the things he wants at his own pace. That frustrates him and he finally reached the limit when he wasn’t able to participate in the duel at Dark Hall 7 Gauntlet, so that’s how he decided to quit the band went to Neil’s side who offered him the things he always wanted, such as the spotlight, including a set up with his cheer squad consisting the Goha supports! (Which I have to say, was pretty cool!)

And I really like Getta. He is a fun and charming character. I loved that he was able to shine in his own way, while at the same time still admiring Roa for his natural stage presence and his ability to look cool at just about anything he does. Better yet he and Roa have such a fantastic dynamic thanks to both of them having their own respective flamboyant personalities, which in turn made the duel even way more dazzling to watch. It is certainly something I would like to see more of, not just with these two, but future characters that we have yet to be introduced to.

In fact, I would say this episode made me like Roa’s character way more than his debut. This time we actually got to see just how much of a sassy little shit he is, and yet I can’t help but love him for it. And what’s better was how Getta just wouldn’t put up with it. When Roa had reached out to stop him from falling out, Getta decided to let go because he was so mad at him when he heard Roa was going to ask Yuuga if he could make him a high performance drumming robot drummer to fill the void Getta had left behind, whelp. (But hey, at least he changed his request to make a drum-set dueldisk, which is undoubtedly for Getta to use whenever he returns to the band.) Another thing worth noting is that the way they highlighted Roa’s natural stage presence and his dazzling aurora came off sooooo much better. I really wished they had done it this way for his debut, because while it was funny, I found myself enjoying this approach a lot more. I also really enjoyed his “divine draws”, (Yuuga’s and Rook’s expressions throughout whole thing were gold!) his cheesy lines and breaking into a song in the middle of the duel.

And of course we can’t forget about the side quips from Yuuga’s gangs. Their little gossip corner was so funny, it’s relatable because they were saying exactly what we were thinking. That’s definitely one of the highlights from this series.

Next week looks like to be shaping up to be another promising and potentially personal episode. It looks like we might be seeing Kaizo’s data being used to duel against Yuuga! 😀

PLEASE READ: During the Fall Season, YGO SEVENS entries will now be regularly posted on Tuesdays/Wednesdays.

At this time I have a very tight schedule, and while sometimes the Fansubs for this show sometimes comes out as early as Saturday (day of release), it also sometimes comes out as late as Tuesdays (if you are like me, who wait for V2 of the subs). So for that reason, in order to create a consistent schedule for myself this season, I have decided it would be best to arrange the specific release window for YGO SEVENS posts.

Thank you for understanding!
See you next week!
