So as I said at the end of last episode it took any idiot with eyes to know that wasn’t his mother, however, I have to say I wasn’t expecting this. So as Shinichi jumps down onto the beach, he’s confronted with not his mother but this guy. Uda Mamoru, another human who kept his human brain but got infected by a parasite.
In Uda’s case it was his neck/lower part of his face that got taken over. The two exchange backstories, we find the reason that Uda’s parasite failed was because the moment he went to take Uda’s body, Uda stumbled into the ocean and was about to die.

He’s kind of a crybaby, but I honestly kind of like this guy. It’s nice for Shinichi to have a friend around that can sort of understand what he’s going through. Upon hearing Shinichi’s story, Uda swears to help him find his enemy and take her out.

We also learn a little about what exactly is happening to Shinichi’s body to make it change this episode. Smart parts of Migi are floating around in his blood stream, once again, his reaction is a lot more calm then I would of expected. Perhaps it is because of the parts of Migi, he did comment that he’d been having trouble crying.
So after that talk we cut to the next day, where Shinichi gets a call from Uda telling him that he’s come across their enemy. Oh wow, this took a lot less time then I thought it would. I mean, it’s actually her this time. So they run to meet each other.

Uda leads her to a cliff near the ocean, i’d assume the same one he fell off in his backstory. His parasite notices something about Shinichi’s mom’s attack patron and then seemingly gets stabbed in the heart.
Along the way to fight her, Migi gets tired and falls asleep on Shinichi but leaves him with the parting gift of a knife hand. Good thing he was already out in the middle of nowhere, I mean, how freaky would it be to see a guy with that as a hand running down the street at almost inhuman speeds? Hooray for the plot convenience of being in the middle of nowhere! Here it is at last, the show down between Shinichi and the parasite invading his mother’s body!

The fight looks amazing, i’m not going to mince words here. The animation team did a wonderful job of keeping up the suspense during the fight, the characters emotions convay beautifully. As Shinichi is about to finish her off, he sees the burn on her arm and hesitates. Lucky for him, Uda was still alive. How did they pull that one off? The parasite in Uda moved his heart and vital organs right before the strike noticing that she kept aiming there.
That’s what you get for being a one trick pony lady!

They defeat his mother and Shinichi and his dad get ready to return home, not before visiting that cliff by the sea one last time. Shinichi asks his dad, if in his nightmare…if his mother suffered. His dad says no and Shinichi passes out. The poor guy had been under so much stress, can you really blame him? We know he stayed at the hotel but how much sleep could he really get with how worked up he was?

He returns home and the two girls notice that he’s back, he turns and we see the Shinichi from the end of the opening. Wow, uh…wow, yeah, that’s uh…he got hot. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I liked the nerdy version from before but this is something entirely different.

This was a good episode for strong emotions. I really felt with Shinichi for the entire episode, from seeing how Uda was to wondering about the changes in himself. To the feelings of having to take out his own mother, even if he knew conciously that it wasn’t her anymore. He’s had to take the weight of the world onto his shoulders, at the very least now he knows that he has an ally. I hope that we get to see more of Uda and Parasite in the future, I’d be interested to see him grow as a character as well. This doesn’t seem like the kind of show that would introduce a character like that and forget about them so i’ll look forward to that in the future.
What did everyone else think of Uda and Parasite? Do you want to see more of them? Can someone give me a simple yes or no on if they show up later in the manga to avoid spoilers? I think they might, I just had the oddest sense of deja vu while taking screen shots of him might be vague memories of the manga. On wards to episode 8, from what I can tell from the preview, we’ll have some stuff with the pregnant parasite teacher coming up.

I’m so glad Uda didn’t die! Like you said, he was pretty endearing. 🙂 And I’m also pleasantly surprised that Shinichi’s dad made it alive! I was half expecting him to die as well. I’m glad this revenge was taken care of quickly.
