It’s time to take a look at what caught our eye for the Fall 2022 Season!

Seasonal Updates

Celebrating our 12th Anniversary! ❀

Today is our 12th Anniversary!!!! 😀 Wow, that’s crazy, it’s been 12 years since I started this blog, that’s like double the time I actually thought we’d be around for, not sure how that happened, but here we are! But as the site gets older so are we, so naturally we are starting to look at how the blog is going to fit in our lives going forward. Things like how much time we have to do things, what we would like to expand on, what can or should we do to make this more fun for us the writers, and what can we do to improve the content we deliver. In the foreseen future, there will be adjustments being made to accommodate how our lives have evolved so that we can continue to do this for as long as we wish to. Those details are still being ironed out as a lot of thought being put into it, but until we have that sorted out, we want to give you a big thank you for being with us!

Cheers to another year!

Idolish7: Third Beat! Part 2
アイドリッシュセブン Third BEAT! 第2クール

Source: Game
Animation Company: TROYCA
Website: https://idolish7.com/aninana/
Premiere: October 2, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Music
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis: The second cour of the third season of IDOLiSH7.

Eva: Oh man, this half is gonna be a doozy! The first cour was freaking amazing, chaotic and emotional, and holy shit Ryo, that crazy bastard. Can you really blame Yuki going over to fetch Momo from him place with a freaking baseball bat? The guy is the devil incarnated. Anyhow, I’m really excited to see ZOOL in action even though I have so many mixed emotions about these guy. It’s complicated, like SUPER COMPLICATED BECAUSE THEY ARE HOSTILE TOWARDS MY BIAS TRIGGER, SO NATURALLY I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS! It is actually funny when you think about it because you may remember I had once said their music didn’t grab me– but that’s history, and I have a reason for how that happened haha, but that’s story is for another day. Shadow and I will be doing a joint-coverage for this half of the season so please look forward to it!

Shadow: I have been WAITING for the second half in great anticipation with how the first part left us on an incredibly cruel cliffhanger. I’ve even stopped looking up translations so I can go into this somewhat blind. Though I still know several plot points that happens. But man, it’s surely going to be quite the ride, especially with my reluctant newfound feelings for Haruka. >_> Darn his pretty cards in the game. Just as Eva said earlier, we’ll be sharing this season and I’m really glad to be covering it at least a little bit so I can just dump all my feelings in word form. Especially since I honestly had a blast covering the first part of it. Alright i7, I’m ready. HIT ME WHERE IT HURTS.

Quietcupcake: I’m so excited for the second half of third beat! Every season since it ended I’ve been waiting for it’s announcement and it’s finally here!! They left us on such a cliffhanger and I’m just so stressed for what is going to happen. I’m going in blind, but I’ve heard things are only going to get more intense from here on out. Please i7 give me all the feelings!!

Spy x Family Part 2
SPY×FAMILY 2クール

Source: Manga
Animation Company: Wit Studio | CloverWorks
Website: https://spy-family.net/
Premiere: October 1, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Action, Comedy
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis: The second half of SPYxFAMILY.

Agent Twilight, the greatest spy for the nation of Westalis, has to infiltrate an elite private school. In order to do so he assumes the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger, adopts an orphan girl, and marries a city hall employee. Unknown to him, his daughter Anya is a telepath and his wife Yor is an assassin. The three learn to become a family while working to complete Twilight’s missions and maintain world peace.

Eva: I really enjoyed the first half of the season, and I couldn’t be more ready to pick up where we left off. I do hope they cut back on the narrator a bit though. There were times in the first season that it felt redundant since they were more or less repeating what Loid was saying. Besides that, I am looking forward to seeing our best boy this half!

Shadow: If you followed my coverage of the first half, you’ll know that I had a lot of mixed feelings about this adaptation. I feel like I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn’t read the manga since there were some liberties and choices made that I didn’t quite enjoy/agree with. Overall, I still think it’s a fun adaptation, but I feel like there were several things the manga just did a lot better. I’m a bit on the fence of picking this back up, but this next arc should be quite exciting and I actually haven’t sat down and reread this arc in a while. So maybe this arc in particular will be more engaging animated since it didn’t really hold my attention while reading it. (Though maybe I wasn’t in the right mood when I read it at first). I’m willing to give it a couple eps to see how I feel though and then decide whether or not to continue or pass it off to someone else.

Quietcupcake: The first season was a lot of fun! And I really enjoyed coming back to watch it with friends each week. If it continues down the same path from the first season, I know it’s going to be an enjoyable series that I’ll look forward to each week. I’m looking forward to yelling about Loid, Yor, and Anya and all the funny misconceptions they run into along the way. Plus, I hope they do finally get to adopt their dog!

Eva: After years of putting this off, I had finally gotten around to watching it and holy shit I love it. MOB IS SUCH A PRECIOUS BEAN. I’m really excited for what’s in store for this season, it’s gonna be wild!

Shadow: MY. SON. IS. BACK. Another series that I have been WAITING in anticipation for. I was kind of worried when I heard some people comment how there may not even be another season because there wasn’t enough content but from the looks of it, this may not even be the final season since it isn’t prefaced with “final” yet. Or this is actually the last season and I’ll be heartbroken by the end. ANYWAYS, I am ready to have Mob back in my life. I even pre-ordered his nendo heh.

Quietcupcake: Mob, the boy ever!! I missed you so much!! I missed this series so much and I’m so glad that it’s getting a second season. I saw the preview of the new opening and I just know I am going to be in pain. I just care them all so much. I hope this season lives up to all the hype, I’m looking forward to crying and loving these characters all over again.

NOTE: WATCH THE PROLOGUE ON GUNDAMINFO!

Eva: Oh man I am SO SO SO excited for this one! ! The prologue is super promising and boy did it already rip my heart out– so make sure you watch this first before the first episode! I definitely want to cover this, but right now I really need to take it easy, so I don’t know, it might be better for me just to stick to watching it at my own pace. I’ll see how I feel once October rolls in.

To Your Eternity Season 2
Fumetsu no Anata e 2nd Season | 不滅のあなたへ Season 2

Animation Company: Drive
Website: https://www.anime-fumetsunoanatae.com
Premiere: October 23, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Psychological, Supernatural
Trailer: PV 1 |
Synopsis: The second season of Fumetsu no Anata e.

In the beginning, an “orb” is cast unto Earth. “It” can do two things: change into the form of the thing that stimulates “it”; and come back to life after death. “It” morphs from orb to rock, then to wolf, and finally to boy, but roams about like a newborn who knows nothing. As a boy, “it” becomes Fushi.

Through encounters with human kindness, Fushi not only gains survival skills but grows as a “person”. But his journey is darkened by the inexplicable and destructive enemy Nokker and cruel partings with the people he loves.

The second season of Fumetsu no Anata e.

Quietcupcake:  I don’t even know what’s going to happen this season, but I can guarantee that I will cry. I was destroyed so many times during season 1 that I’m almost scared to go into season 2. That being said, if they can keep up the momentum, I can say that I will thoroughly enjoy this show! If anything, I’m a little worried that it’s going to fall into a formula of: meet, befriend, death, and grief. And while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I can feel it getting a little stale in the future. But, I am definitely excited to see everyone who Fushi will meet in the upcoming season! I’m going in with very high hopes!!

The Eye-Catchers

Raven of the Inner Palace
Koukyuu no Karasu | 後宮の烏

Source: Novel
Animation Company: Bandai Namco Pictures
Website: https://kokyu-anime.com/
Premiere: October 1, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Historical, Drama, Fantasy, Mystery
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Synopsis:

Deep within the inner palace lives a special consort who does not serve the emperor despite her position, known as the Raven Consort. People who have seen her say she looks like an old woman, while others say she looks like a young girl. Stories talk of her use of mysterious arts and how she can take on any request, be it death curses to finding lost things. Koushun, the current emperor, goes to visit the Raven Consort with that intention, without knowing that their fated meeting will become a taboo that will overturn history.

Eva: This is another title I am VERY excited to see this season! I think it was like two or three months before SevenSeas announced that they are licensing the novels that I happen to come across the fan translations and I must say, this one had me hooked imeaditely so I was SO happy to see this one picked up! I have only been able to read I think it was about four chapters, but man just based on what I’ve read so far, this is going to be a fun one to watch. I am a bit nervous though because there are horror elements in this, and while I have a harder time watching it, I can at least read the genre (sorta, kinda… there are some gruesome content that definitely made me wince when I was reading it). At least I have a bit of indication of when those scenes would pop up, but only up to the chapters I’ve read hahahaha! Unfortunately the first volume of the novel won’t be out until February 2023. I am curious to see whether we’ll see the whole series covered though, because it’s only 7 Volumes long!

Shadow: I feel like this could be a hit or a miss for me. The artstyle is kind of iffy for me personally because I am picky, but I’ll probably wait and see what the general consensus is before trying it out. It looks interesting, but I’m still on the fence about it.

Bibliophile Princess
Mushikaburi-hime | 虫かぶり姫

Source: Novel
Animation Company: MADHOUSE
Website: https://mushikaburihime.com/
Premiere: October 6, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Romance
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis:

When book-loving Lady Elianna spots Prince Christopher—her betrothed in name only—consorting with another noble lady, she realizes the recent rumors must be true. The prince has someone he truly loves, which means the annulment of their engagement is both inevitable and fast-approaching. What she doesn’t realize is that this is merely a surface ripple—one of many where the truth runs deep, in a conspiracy surpassing her imagination!

Eva: Yay! Another series I’ve read! 😀 It’s been a while though since I’ve last checked out the manga so I actually don’t remember too much except that it was really cute. I am planning to purchase the novels this fall once I update my phone because I’m out of memory so no room for ebooks, so I’m excited for that. I keep hoping for JNovel Club to announce some prints for some of my favourites, alas… still nothing, but I digress. It feels like it’s been a while since MADHOUSE touched a fluffy romantic series like this one so I am really excited to see it get the love it deserves!

Quietcupcake:  I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series! I am a simple person, I like princes and princesses, so I was immediately drawn into because of this. It looks incredibly cute and sweet so I will definitely be checking this one out!

Blue Lock
ブルーロック

Source: Manga
Animation Company: 8-bit
Website: https://bluelock-pr.com/
Premiere: October 9, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Action, Drama, Sports
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2
Synopsis:

After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. But what’s missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match…and to do so, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team…and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?

Eva: I’ve heard some things about this one, but I also don’t know what to expect? What I’m seeing right now, is A LOT of crazy faces and uh, looks like a very chaotic and intense version of soccer.

Shadow: At first I was going to just pass this by, but after a second glance, this could end up shaping up to be pretty interesting. I’m really picky when it comes to sports anime. I couldn’t get into a lot of recent sports anime because they ended up as either drama with a side of sports or badly written. However, this one seems just off the walls, maybe even moreso than the likes of Kuroko and Yowapeda. And if that’s the case, I’ll definitely give it a watch to see what the heck is going on lol.

Quietcupcake:  A lot of people seemed really hyped about this one and honestly, I don’t know if I would call this a sports anime? Like yeah, the basis is soccer but I don’t think they are actually playing the sport. It seems more like a elimination game full of strikers. I’ll definitely be checking this out for the hype, but I’m going in anticipating that sports aspect is secondary to the story.

Wild Cards

Chainsaw Man
チェンソーマン

Source: Manga
Animation Company: MAPPA
Website: https://chainsawman.dog/
Premiere: October 12, 2022 (JST)
Genre: Action, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Supernatural
Trailer: PV 1 | PV 2 | PV 3
Synopsis:

Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita.

One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man” — a man with a devil’s heart.

Shadow: I’ve heard a lot of great things about this series from friends and literally everyone online. And while I’ve watched and enjoyed things like Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist, this looks a bit too… graphic for me. Maybe I’ll give it a watch to see whether or not it’s too graphic. Especially since people have been singing its praises for as long as the manga has been out.

Quietcupcake: I’ve only read the first two volumes of Chainsaw Man, but they were a good way to spend an hour! If anything, I’m more looking forward to character interactions than I am some of the fighting, but really I’m just looking for a good action series overall. Plus, I’m just looking forward to seeing how the story continues after the second volume of the manga!

I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss

When Aileen, the Duke’s daughter, regains her memories of her past life, she realizes she’s barreling toward ruin at full speed. Searching for any way out of her hopeless situation, the method she chooses is to capture the heart of the last boss–the Demon Lord Claude!

Eva: Okay this one is…. a gamble for me. I’ve read the manga to kill some time and it was… a hit and miss? I am basically just checking this one out to see maybe I’ll enjoy it a bit more being animated and all… it really depends. I can’t remember if I checked out the novel’s fan translations (before it was picked up by YenPress) at some point, I feel like I probably did as I have for most series when I was on a reading spree at one point. Either way, I feel like we’re going to see a lot more of the “Reincarnated into Villainess” trope as we go into 2023.

Quietcupcake: … I’ll be honest, I skipped over this during my initial review, but I generally enjoy these “Reincarnated into Villainess” tropes, because most of them are light-hearted with a lot of cute moments. I’m not expecting Aileen to be Catarina Claes in any way, but I hope the at this series is fun nonetheless. I’ll probably keep my ear to the ground for this one and pick it up if people are vibing with it!

Eternal Boys

Synopsis:

The latest project proposed by Manpuku Etertainment productions, in a bid to revive the company. Experienced in the successes and failures of the business world, 6 middle-aged men now face the many hurdles of age and physical ability, whilst pursuing their goal to become idols. In an effort to prove that old dogs can learn new tricks, and that you can still learn to shine no matter your age. These middle-aged men, and the end of their ropes, are taking a stand!

Quietcupcake: Honestly, I’m just here for a good time. This seems like it will be really funny, but also I’m holding out that it will be good because I would like to see some series with older characters. Maybe I’ll live out my idol dreams through these middle aged men. Truthfully, this really can go either way. I don’t expect this to be a standout series, but I do just hope that it gives us a good time during its run.

Overall Thoughts

Eva: Oh boy~, there are a lot of titles I am really excited to be watching this season! First of all I’m glad to be back for Idolish7: Third Beat Part 2! As mentioned earlier, Shadow and I will be sharing this half of the season together and going to be a freaking roller-coaster of emotions! The other titles I got my eye on this season are between Gundam the Witch from MercuryRaven of the Inner Palace and Princess of the Bibliophile and Shinobi no Ittoki. It will largely depend on what I end up feeling most passionate about since I really don’t see myself covering more than two shows this season (which includes Precure), even if one is every second week. Honestly I really just need to take it easy this season. Idolish7 is really the only exception because I missed the first part’s coverage due to taking a season hiatus so I’M DOING THIS NO MATTER WHAT BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS TO TALK ABOUT THIS SEASON. But whatever I don’t pick up, at least I’ll be able to enjoy them like Spy x Family again and brace myself for the grand finale of Mob Psycho!

Shadow: The sequels are STACKED this season and I am here for it. After a well needed break from seasonal anime, I’m ready to dive straight into the sequels. At least this way I know exactly what I’ll be covering and don’t have to worry about searching for a good one to cover. So far, my attention is trained on Idolish7: Third Beat Part 2 and Mob Psycho III while being moderately excited for Spy x Family. I may check out a few others to see how I feel about them like Chainsaw Man and Raven of the Inner Palace. Other than that, I’m excited to see what hype all of these series brings~

Quietcupcake: This season is full of highly anticipated sequels. I remember looking at them all and thinking “Oh snap! How am I gonna manage to fit them all in?”. In terms of sequels I will absolutely be watching Idolish7″ Third Beat! Part 2, Spy x Family Part 2, and Mob Psycho 100 III. And coincidentally those three are the ones I am most excited for this season. But that being said, I am still very excited to cover To Your Eternity Season 2because, as I mentioned before, I am ready to cry again. When it comes to some of the newer things, I’ll definitely check out Chainsaw Man, because it’s received a whole lot of hype recently. I’ll also be checking out Blue Lock, Bibliophile Princess, and Eternal boys. All three of those are very different in their genres, so I figure if one doesn’t cover my craving one of the others will satisfy it. Between those three, it’ll be a toss up which ones I’ll cover. When it comes to Blue Lock, a lot of people have been looking forward to it, but I’m just a little hesitant for how everything will actually play out. Plus, I might fall into the trap of comparing it to the most recent soccer anime I covered. Bibliophile Princess, is definitely something I’m looking for when I just want to watch cute romance, but sometimes that’s hard to write about for me. And lastly, Eternal Boys has the absolute potential to just be season fodder and if that’s the case I want nothing to do with it. But if it’s done well I can see having a grand old time. Hoping for a good season all around!!
